Which devices does FIDA Player run on?
FIDA Player runs on practically every device with Android TV or Google TV from Android 6.0:
- Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer
- Nvidia Shield TV
- Xiaomi Mi Box S and Mi TV Stick, plus many budget TV boxes
- TVs with Android TV or Google TV, for example from Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense
The same app runs on the Fire TV Stick – the steps are on the page M3U player for the Fire TV Stick.
Install FIDA Player on Android TV
You download FIDA Player straight from this page. The easiest way is the free “Downloader” app from the TV’s Google Play Store.
- Install “Downloader” from the Google Play Store on the TV.
- Open Settings › Apps › Security & restrictions › Unknown sources and allow Downloader. Depending on the device this is under “Privacy › Security”. Not there? Settings › System › About › click “Android TV OS build” seven times.
- In Downloader, enter
fida-player.com/apkand download the file. - Confirm Install and open the app.
Alternative: with a USB stick
- Download the APK file on your computer from the download page and copy it to a USB stick.
- Plug the stick into the box or TV and open the file with a file manager.
- If asked: allow the file manager to install from unknown sources.
- Install – done.
Which version? The address fida-player.com/apk delivers the recommended version, which runs on practically every device. You only need the 64-bit version in the download section if the recommended one cannot be installed – for example on the Nvidia Shield TV.
Add your playlist
On first launch FIDA Player asks for your playlist: an M3U link or an M3U file from your provider. The app itself contains no content.
- Send it from your phone: A code to scan appears on the TV. With your phone you send the link or file to the TV within seconds – no typing on the on-screen keyboard.
- Type the link: With the on-screen keyboard or the Google TV app on your phone, which works as a keyboard.
How an M3U playlist is built and what helps with errors is covered under Play an M3U playlist.
The Smart TV home screen
Besides the classic channel list, the TV app has a Smart TV view in the style of modern streaming apps – built from your own playlist:
- Tabs for Home, Movies, Series and “New & popular”, plus a search
- Filter by genre and language: “Continue watching”, Top 10 and the suggestions then show only what matches
- “Because you watched …”, Top 10 by rating and a random selection to browse
- Movies of a series (“Toy Story”, “Harry Potter”) are stacked together, with an overview of all parts
Posters, descriptions and trailers come from your provider’s server, as far as it supplies them.
If something doesn’t work
Android blocks the installation
Allow Downloader (or the file manager) under “Unknown sources” or “Install unknown apps”. Only then does the TV accept the APK.
A channel stutters or has no sound
Press and hold OK and choose the other player in the quick menu: FIDA Player uses ExoPlayer and VLC, and the app also switches by itself when there are problems. An FFmpeg decoder is built in for audio formats like AC3, E-AC3 and DTS. The buffer can be increased in the settings.
The playlist does not load
Try opening the M3U link in your phone’s browser. If it doesn’t load there, the link is the problem – more under Play an M3U playlist.
